Traffic warden attacked by driver
AN irate motorist grabbed a traffic warden's radio and pushed it into his mouth, a court was told.
Peter Jackson, a 52-year-old caf owner, launched the assault after Blackpool Council warden Kevin Pettitt tried to give him a parking ticket.
After confronting Mr Pettitt, Jackson reportedly said: "Let's sort this out with a fight."
The warden said "no", but as he tried to radio the incident to a town hall colleague, Jackson attacked him.
He grabbed the radio and pushed it into Mr Pettitt's mouth, cutting the inside of the warden's upper lip.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, told Blackpool magistrates how violence flared on April 21, about 10am, after Mr Pettitt was seen looking at Jackson's car parked on Lytham Road, South Shore.
Jackson told the warden he still had half an hour left in the parking bay, which had a 60-minute maximum waiting time. The warden agreed.
Half an hour later Mr Pettitt returned, issued a parking ticket for the car and was seen taking a photograph of the car's position when Jackson approached him.
Ms Smith said: "The defendant grabbed the radio and pushed it into Mr Pettitt's mouth, causing a cut to his inner upper lip."
Jackson, of Gainsborough Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to assault.
The court was told Jackson suffered from highly unstable diabetes. He blamed his reaction and temper with the warden partly on his illness.
Kathryn Edwards, defending, said: "He accepts he put his hand over Mr Pettitt's hand on the radio, saying there was no need to radio it in.He says he did not intentionally push it into his mouth."
Jackson was bailed to May 29 for pre-sentence reports by Blackpool magistrates and warned he may be jailed.
