Tough call for Blackpool volunteer to keep MBE quiet

A CAREER dedicated to helping people less fortunate in the community has seen a council volunteer collect an MBE.

Neil Froggett has spent 16 years working with disadvantaged people in Blackpool, helping hundreds of young adults.

Other Fylde honours:

Bill Beaumont

Andrew Brown

Angie Hesketh

Steve Riley

The 45-year-old father-of-two is based at the Langdale Centre in Mereside where he has helped form a strong partnership between Blackpool Council and community groups to help people with learning difficulties find work in the local area.

He said the job only works because of the hard work and dedication of those around him.

Neil, from Bispham, said: "Many people like to badmouth the work of the council, but this is something which makes a real difference to people's lives. This is how community-related partnerships should work, and work well.

"If my MBE means just one thing it means that what I'm doing is making a real difference to the people I help and the ones I work with.

"I was amazed when I found out and I found it really tough to keep a secret. I told my wife and that was about it. I'm usually really vocal, but I had to keep my mouth shut for a change!

"I have been very fortunate in my life and have had good people around me.

"It's a job I just love doing and one that I'm very proud of. I like to feel I'm making a difference to people's lives."
