Tories want answers over Venables saga

SHADOW Chancellor George Osborne has criticised the Government for the handling of the media storm surrounding Jon Venables.

News the convicted child killer had been taken back into custody after breaking the conditions of his license held particular interest on the Fylde coast.

Fleetwood man David Calvert was forced to flee the town in 2005 after neighbours claimed he was one of the murderers of Liverpool toddler James Bulger. The father-of-four is now in hiding after threats to kill him resurfaced this week.

Speaking on the Government's handling of the case George Osborne said: "Serious questions have to be asked about the way this case has been handled.

"The fact we have not had a clear statement from the Government about it concerns a lot of people."
