Theft case woman liked risks

A WOMAN told police she had enough money to buy a T-shirt but she had stolen it because she liked taking risks.

Carly Turner, 25, of Regent Road, central Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft of a 4.99 T-shirt from JD Sports.

She was fined 80 with 60 costs and the 15 victims' surcharge, but Blackpool magistrates said time spent in custody would serve in lieu of the penalties.

Suzanne Sanders, prosecuting, said Turner was seen by shop staff hiding a T-shirt under her clothes on Friday at 3.25pm.

After being arrested, Turner became ill and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where an X-ray showed a large number of tablets in two bags were concealed in her body.

The bags were removed. Turner said she had taken 10 diazepam tablets.

Allan Cobain, defending, said his client had taken an excess of sleeping tablets and did not know what she was doing when she stole the T-shirt.
