Blackpool’s Illuminations Switch-On has been dealt a massive blow with the shock news Irish band The Script have had to pull out of Friday’s event.
A statement from Switch-On organisers Marketing Blackpool said the band had “taken the difficult decision because of a family matter”.
In a statement The Script’s management said: “It is with deepest regret The Script have had to cancel both their Leeds Academy (29th Aug) and the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On concert (30th Aug) shows due to a sudden serious family illness.”
Refunds for tickets will be available from the point of purchase
Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “We are deeply saddened that The Script have been forced to cancel their Blackpool Illuminations gig but we totally understand and appreciate that personal family matters take priority and our thoughts are with the band and their families at this time.
“We are currently working with artist management to secure a replacement act for Friday’s Switch-On and will announce this information as soon as we are able to.
TV star Jonathan Ross is set to turn on the Illuminations on Friday.
