Teenager on death charge
Scene of a road traffic accident on Division Lane.
AN 18-year-old driver has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a teenage passenger travelling in her car.
Naomi Jones, of Carr Drive, Wesham, near Kirkham, is charged with causing the death of 17-year-old Elysia Ashworth by dangerous driving.
Jones is said to have been driving a Vauxhall Corsa along Division Lane, Marton, on July 11 last year, with two passengers on board, when her car collided with a tree.
Prosecutor Wendy Evans’s application the case be sent straight to crown court was not opposed by defence counsel Michelle Brown.
Blackpool magistrates sent the case direct to Preston Crown Court and bailed Jones to appear there on May 17.

Miss Ashworth, of Ulverston Crescent, St Annes, suffered spinal and kidney injuries in the crash and died two days later in hospital. She was a pupil at King Edward Queen Mary School, Lytham St Annes, as was fellow passenger in Jones’s car, Ellen Richardson.
