Shoppers have helped boost our Hospice Heroes appeal...by stopping to enjoy a spot of tea.

Trinity Hospice’s Kirkham charity shop put on a Trinity Tea Party which saw scores of people turn up for a cuppa and a slice of cake, all for The Gazette’s £200,000 appeal for Trinity Hospice and Brian House children’s hospice on Low Moor Road, Bispham.

The event raised £70 for the campaign, and now bosses at Trinity are urging others to host a similar event.

Vicky Brown, manager of the shop, on Poulton Street, said: “Things started a bit slowly, I think because of the weather, but it picked up and we had quite a few people in.

“We’re pleased with what we raised – some people were donating £5 and £10 a time.

“All our volunteers put in a lot of effort for the tea party and we’re really grateful to the people of Kirkham who came in to support us.”

Our £200,000 will be put with a £280,000 grant from the Department of Health to pay for the biggest refurbishment in Trinity’s 28-year
history.

It includes new single rooms on Trinity’s inpatient unit, new areas of privacy for families and patients and brighter bedrooms at Brian House.

Linzi Young, Trinity’s fund-raising manager, said: “Our Kirkham shop tea party was a great way to raise awareness of the Hospice Heroes appeal and show people how easy it is to host a small tea party in aid of Trinity. It was lovely that so many supporters called in for a cuppa, and we are very grateful to everyone who contributed in some way.

“Our refurbishment work is half way through, with patients already benefiting from bright new decor and lovely en-suite bathrooms.

“The hospice has always been synonymous with first class palliative care, and very soon our facilities will also be the best they can be.

“Support for the Tea Party at Kirkham proves that there are Hospice Heroes all across the Fylde. There are more tea parties planned at various venues in April and May, so there’s still time to get involved.” For more information on Hospice Heroes and the Trinity Tea Parties visit www.trinityhospice.co.uk.
