Stepdad made tragic body find
THE body of missing man David Thomson was discovered by his heartbroken stepfather – just 100 yards from where he was last seen alive.
Steve Hanson, from Poulton, made the grim discovery during a desperate search for the 26-year-old.
He was scouring land down Six Arches Lane, in Scorton, close to where his stepson had last been seen on CCTV images, wandering through the fields.
Mr Hanson said: "It was horrible. We found a shoe first on the bank. Then we saw what looked like a sack. It was David.
"There was an unadopted road my brother-in-law and I went down and we saw a ditch between the railway and the road, near the caravan park."David was 100 yards from where he was last seen, three weeks to the day.
"We rang the police and they set up a crime scene investigation.
"I don't know how the police hadn't found him."
The family today paid tribute to their "lovely lad" and thanked his friends who had spent many hours searching through fields in Scorton since Mr Thomson went missing on January 16.
A post mortem has so far proved inconclusive. Further tests will now be carried out to ascertain a cause of death.
Det Chief Insp Neil Gregson, of Lancashire Police, said he was not treating Mr Thomson's death as suspicious.
