Starting class...on the TV
A BLACKPOOL schoolgirl will find the start of term a little different this year – as she will be surrounded by famous faces and camera crews.
Anna Jobarteh, a Highfield Humanities student, made her onscreen debut last night as a pupil in the BBC's popular Waterloo Road series.
And Anna, 14, who appeared as Ruth Kirby, along with Corrie star Tina O' Brien and Britain's Got Talent dancer George Sampson, is not the only Blackpool link this series.
The cast and crew packed up and travelled from the fictional Rochdale school to the shores of Blackpool to film dramatic scenes for the new series this week.
Anna, who landed the role after spotting an advert for Scream management agency in The Gazette, said: "I'm so excited and can't wait for the show to start. I've always been a fan of Waterloo Road and couldn't believe it when I got the part. I had so much fun on set and everyone was so nice."
"I have always enjoyed acting, but wasn't sure how young people my age could enter the industry, without attending a formal theatre school.
When I was looking in the Gazette one day, I noticed an advert for Scream Theatre Schools and began attending their performance workshops in Blackpool, and I haven't looked back since."
Snappers had a field day when they spotted the crew of the drama filming this week near South Pier, and later at the Pleasure Beach.
Jeff Holt, of St Alban's Road, St Annes, said: "I spotted all the crew and actors on Tuesday afternoon, and they said they would be filming here all week.
"From what I could tell, it looks like it's a school trip and there's going to be a sea rescue, as there were some youngsters in the sea, with a lifeguard. There were crowds watching and it was quite exciting for everybody."
