Stars wow crowds in Blackpool

THOUSANDS of music fans went wild in the Empress Ballroom yesterday as a star line-up rocked the stage.

Switch On star, Alesha Dixon, chart toppers Scouting For Girls, the Saturdays, Basshunter and McFly were among the big names to dazzle in front of the excitable crowd – some who had camped out over night

Alexandra Burke belted out her hits All Night Long and Bad Boys in a thigh skimming black number while The Saturdays showed off their vocal talent with an impressive acoustic set despite being two band mates down through sickness.

Alesha Dixon, who will be back in Blackpool for the Illuminations switch-on, said: "It was great when the lights went down for Breathe Slow, I could see the audience, they were brilliant."

And McFly's fans were out in force screaming their hearts out while X-Factor stars Diana Vickers and Olly Murs impressed the crowd with their hits.

Diana said: "I love Blackpool, I love a Northern crowd. It's great."

And Olly added: "The crowd are amazing. I'm really excited."

Headliners Scouting For Girls, who got the fans bopping away to She's So Lovely, said the ballroom was their "favourite venue in the country".

The crowd exploded into applause for each act during the six hours of non-stop music at the Rock FM Live concert.

Lorraine Hay, from South Shore, said: "Scouting For Girls and the Script were brilliant. It's great that a concert like this is being held in Blackpool."

Sarah Cumming, 27, from South Shore, added: "We've had a great time. The venue is really good and the acts have been great. Basshunter was fantastic and Alexandra Burke was good."
