Splashing triumph for MRI appeal
FUNDRAISERS made a real splash as the cash poured in for the Blackpool's A Knockout appeal.
Armed with water pistols and inflatable rings, 10 teams battled it out – and got a good soaking – as the Sandcastle Waterpark hosted It's A "Wet" Knockout.
It was all in aid of The Gazette-backed 500,000 appeal to set up MRI scanning facilities for children at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
C-Cabs, Sainsbury's in Bispham, Rock FM, BCM Community Meals, Heckfords and Read & Errington went head to head in the competition as well as four teams from the Sandcastle – The Guardians, Hot Dogs, Waterbabies and the Hasselhoff Has Beens.
Helen Johnson, a lifeguard at the Sandcastle Waterpark, said: "It's been really fun and it's great to be able to enjoy being in the pool for a change."
C-Cabs, who won last summer's It's A Knockout competition at Fylde Rugby Club, triumphed once again as they beat Heckfords in the gruelling grand final.
All teams had to raise 500 to take part in the event to raise money for the appeal.
Mayor of Blackpool Coun Robert Wynne said: "Everyone's had a great time as well as raising loads of cash for charity. It's been really good fun."
Sandcastle Waterpark's managing director John Child said: "It's been fantastic.
"We are hoping to do it on a regular basis to raise money for charity.
"Perhaps the winning team can come back and defend their crown."
