Showman announces Prom gig

John Barrowman

John Barrowman

AN INTERNATIONAL showman famed for his talents on stage and screen is set to take to Blackpool Prom for a picnic with a difference.

John Barrowman is the latest artist confirmed to entertain thousands on the resort’s Tower Headland – following hot on the heels of superstar Elton John.

The Torchwood star will take to the stage on Saturday, June 23, for a “Picnic by the Seaside”, with concert-goers invited to bring their own seating and hampers.

The event is being organised by St Annes-based promoters Cuffe and Taylor, the firm behind the Lytham Proms events.

A spokesman for the firm said: “Following several sell out tours and hit albums, John will once again prove why he is one of the UK’s most versatile and treasured artists with this new show at the new Tower Festival Headland on Saturday June 23.

“The concert announcement comes on the back of the stellar line-up of performers announced for the headland this summer, including UK heart-throb boy bands The Wanted and McFly.”

Over the last year Barrowman has become a star on both sides of the Atlantic, with drama Torchwood now a massive UK and US hit and filming under way for a new primetime American drama, Gilded Lilys.

The gig is one of just four Barrowman will play this summer, following on from a sell-out UK tour and a Greatest Hits album last year.

He is headlining on the Headland just seven days after Elton John (June 16), and the night before The Wanted and McFly (June 24).

At least 5,000 tickets are now on sale for the gig, priced from £30, from.ticketline.co.uk.

Or call 0844 888 9991.

They can also be bought in person from the Tourist Information Centre, Festival House, on the Headland.
