Shocked workers demand answers
WAREHOUSE workers are demanding answers after staff were sent home without notice saying there is no work for them.
It is the latest shock for workers at the headquarters of discount retailer B&M Bargains.
They say the warehouse is being reduced to skeleton staffing months earlier than expected following the company's move to Liverpool.
Despite assurances the South Shore warehouse would still deliver to 30 North West stores for the next few months, staff say they have been told stock will now be transported from its Speke base from later this month.
The Blackpool site is set to be used merely as an overflow warehouse for the Liverpool distribution centre.
Staff received a further blow after B&M company boss Simon Arora appeared on television on Tuesday celebrating the opening of the new Liverpool base.
Mr Arora explained he expects the number of B&M stores nationwide to increase to 400 in the next few years as the chain buys up former Woolworths branches.
One warehouse worker said: "I think it's disgusting to appear on TV talking about how much the company is earning and how good they are with staff.
"We were told we would have work at least until 2011 and then this was suddenly changed to September 20.
"Then on Sunday when we turned up at work we were told just to go home as there is no longer any work for us.
"We've been treated disgustingly."
