Residents toast parking victory

JUBILANT residents are celebrating after a two-year parking row was finally resolved.

Locals on King George's Park in Kirkham had been angered by workers from a nearby industrial estate who had been parking outside their homes.

Workers from Home Insulation Services were leaving their vehicles on surrounding residential streets, particularly Foxwood Drive, which meant that homeowners were not able to find room for their own cars.

But a deal has now been brokered allowing some HIS workers to park at the nearby Kingfisher Tavern.

Local Councillor Elaine Silverwood, who was involved in the negotiations, said: "What we wanted to do was sit around the table with the brewery, the pub, the management at HIS, the residents and the police to see what we could resolve.

"Over the years I have had a lot of emails from angry residents. It has really been affecting their quality of life, it has been a distressing situation. We're obviously delighted that the situation has now been resolved."

Fifteen car parking spaces have now been allocated by Kingfisher to HIS employees, which has left locals over the moon.

Coun Liz Oades, who has also been addressing the situation, said: "We have been trying to sort this out for a long time and now we have finally managed to reach an agreement.

"We have had numerous meetings down the years because people were so angry about this.

"It's a situation now where both the residents and the business are happy with what they've got."
