Raiders target tumour victim

A WOMAN whose home was badly damaged by fire was devastated when told she had an inoperable brain tumour.But this week she was hit by another cruel blow when thieves broke into her unguarded home and stole her treasured jewellery.
Mary Ashford, 66, was forced to move out of her home on Warley Road, North Shore, after a fire tore through the property, destroying one room and leaving the rest badly smoke-damaged.
But when the pensioner visited her home to check workmen’s progress yesterday, she discovered a window had been smashed and heartless thieves had raided the premises and stolen the irreplaceable memories of her loved ones.
Police investigating the incident believe the raiders struck between 4pm on Wednesday and 11am the following morning.
The callous thieves even drank half a bottle of Jack Daniels whisky and left it on the fire-damaged and melted kitchen table before leaving.
The crooks stole three watches, a necklace and two bracelets – all of which carried sentimental value.
