Post office closures probe welcomed
A PROBE into the nationwide post office closure programme which saw 11 Fylde branches axed has been welcomed by Blackpool's council leader.
Coun Peter Callow says the authority was "messed about" by the mail giants when they attempted to put a business rescue plan in place to allow a popular post office on Torsway Avenue, Layton, to remain open.
He called for an inquiry at the time saying despite the authority agreeing to fund the branch, Post Office Ltd were "uncooperative" and closed the office anyway.
Now he has welcomed a new investigation by the National Audit Office into the closures which will investigate the impact on vulnerable people and the controversial six-week consultation process, which many claimed was a whitewash.
"It's about time," he said.
