Pool legend loses cancer battle
BLACKPOOL FC legend Alan Suddick has lost his battle with cancer.
The 64-year-old had been in hospital for four weeks battling myloma which had been complicated due to an infection.
Alan's brother-in-law Marcus Polakovs told The Gazette the soccer legend passed away surrounded by his family.
Earlier this month fellow Seasiders' great Jimmy Armfield sent a taped message to Suddick who underwent a tracheotomy at Manchester Royal Infirmary last month. Surgeons hoped the operation would have given him a better quality of life.
But his condition deteriorated over the past few weeks and last week doctors were forced to remove the lower halves of both his legs after he contracted an infection and developed gangrene.
Mr Polakovs said: "Alan passed away peacefully in his sleep last night.
"He took a turn for the worse during the day so the family gathered by his bedside.
"He got another blockage in his lungs.
"The family are all devastated by his death after a brave fight. We are all trying to come to terms with his death now."
