Police hunt after pub charity con

POLICE are hunting a man who allegedly posed as the brother of comedian Peter Kay in a charity rip-off.

Officers are trying to trace Peter Stead, who also goes by the name of Danny Kay, who may be in Blackpool.

Stead allegedly took money from several pub landlords in Derby during summer 2009, offering to put on a comedy night to raise cash for a charity called the Lewis Mighty Fund.

He was paid up-front by a number of landlords to secure the booking, but failed to perform.

The fund was launched to send five-year-old Lewis, a cancer patient from Derby, to America for treatment.

Police say Stead, 47, is of large build, with sandy blond hair. The case featured on BBC TV's Crimewatch programme in January and viewers said a man matching Stead's description was seen in Chesterfield and Blackpool.

Anyone with information is asked to call 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
