Police hunt for firework yobs
POLICE were today hunting for yobs after they attacked a night watchman with fireworks.
The defenceless victim narrowly escaped injury in the attack at a Fleetwood building site.
It happened last Tuesday, just after 6pm, at Chatsworth Avenue, where homes are being built for Wyre Housing Association.
PC Scott Hoyle said three youths had been involved in throwing the firework at the night watchman.
He added: “The man’s coat was damaged and if his coat had caught fire it could have been far more serious.
Danger
“The man involved has been worried and upset by this.
“With things like this there is potential for very serious injury. People can be scarred for life and I don’t think young people are always aware of the danger – even sparklers can get up to very high temperatures.
“They need to be reminded that it is against the law to set fireworks off within 50ft of the road or in a public place.
“Fireworks should be set off in back gardens, but even there they can land on other people’s property and set things on fire.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
