Wyre Council’s planning department is set to be hit by a staffing shortfall – just as it is inundated with applications for approval for hundreds of new homes in the district.
Three vacancies for planning officers are about to be advertised and it is hoped the posts will be filled by September or October.
A spokeswoman said: “There are six members of the team that deal with planning applications.
“Two years ago we had seven. However we then experienced a drop in the number of applications received during the lengthy economic downturn.
“With the country now emerging from recession, we are experiencing a significant rise in the number of planning applications, and in particular major applications of 10 or more houses.”
“This has unfortunately come at a time when two officers in the team are leaving to take up new jobs.”
