Pier venue for young people's health day

YOUNG people in Blackpool are being urged to "Be Positive" today with a summer roadshow.

The event will take place at The Bandstand, at North Pier, and aims to help teenagers and young adults be healthy and enjoy the summer.

It will feature a variety of different health professionals from organisations such as the Primary Care Trust (PCT), Connect, teen pregnancy team, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, the Hub substance misuse service and Connexions.

They will be on hand to offer information and advice on a range of subjects – including sexual health, smoking, emotional wellbeing, healthy eating and exercise. Young people can take advantage of free chlamydia screening.

There will also be freebies up for grabs – such as fruit, juice drinks and condoms.

Angela Baulk said: "The idea was we wanted to still provide health education input, even though the schools were closed, because obviously young people are still around and it's a time when they can get bored and often indulge in risk-taking behaviour."

The event will also take place today, at The Sandcastle, also between 11am and 3pm.
