Oyston quashes new stadium talk

A PLAN for a superstadium on the outskirts of Blackpool is unlikely ever to be revived.

That's the verdict of Blackpool FC chairman Karl Oyston after the stadium site – Whyndyke Farm at Marton – was identified as one of proposed sites for the Fylde's new mental health hospital.

Mr Oyston's father, Owen, revealed plans for a 40,000-seater superstadium and shopping complex on the site in 1996 – but redevelopment work has since taken place at Bloomfield Road.
