Nocturne bike race shines brightly
CYCLES and illuminations were the theme on Blackpool promenade for the Nocturne Series bike event.
More than 4,000 people packed the sunny promenade on Saturday as Blackpool hosted the final part of the 2009 cycling series.
Professional cyclists and fun loving enthusiasts joined forces for the event, which transformed the resort into a sea of bicycles.
Before the serious racing began however, Blackpool hoteliers opted to do a lap of the circuit in their hotel uniforms as part of the fun.
Philip Brown, 40, of the Holmsdale Hotel on Pleasant Street in North Shore, was one who took part.
He said: "The event was really good fun, there was a fair bit of competitiveness between the hoteliers.
"I think events like this are really good for the town, it's nice to see so many people from different parts of the country coming to Blackpool."
James Pope, director of the event, said: "We were delighted with the Blackpool leg of this event and we had a fantastic turnout, probably the biggest of all our events.
"The council allowed us to switch on the Illuminations for the event and it looked really visually stunning and made the night really special."
