A mother-of-two failed to tell the authorities she had a partner who was working as a taxi driver, a court was told.

As a result Catherine Tonner fraudulently received £5,053 in benefits Blackpool magistrates heard.

Tonner, 34, of Thirsk Avenue, St Annes, pleaded guilty to three offences of failing to disclose her circumstances.

She had failed to disclose when she made claims for Income Support, housing and council tax benefit.

The court heard that her partner David Bennett was working as a self employed cabbie five or six nights a week.

Tonner told magistrates at the hearing: ”It was sheer stupidity.

“I will not do it again.”

She was sentenced to a 12 month community order by the court.
