MBE for £1m hero of town's 10k Fun Run
ANDREW Brown has spent a decade getting people running – now he's the one who has got to hot foot it to Buckingham Palace to pick up his MBE.
After raising more than 1m for charity through Blackpool's annual 10K Fun Run, the chairman of Blackpool-based jewellers Beaverbrooks is to receive a special honour from the Queen.
Other Fylde honours:
Bill Beaumont
Neil Froggatt
Angie Hesketh
Steve Riley
Andrew said he initially thought the letter from Buckingham Palace was a joke.
He said: "I'm astounded I was even considered for an MBE. At first I thought it was a joke, but of course I'm delighted to receive this award.
"The Fun Run has been a massive success and in 26 years we've raised more than 1m for charities. It is still something I enjoy organising and I have a great team behind me.
"My belief is that each of us should be putting something back into the community as we past through this world in order to make it a better place for future generations."

As chairman of the St Annes Co-ordination of Charities, Mr Brown has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, organising charity events and being the brains behind the popular It's A Knockout tournaments hosted by Stuart Hall at Stanley Park in the early 1980s.
Beaverbrooks also donate 20 per cent of their post tax profit to charity and so far have given more than 3.5m away to hundreds of needy causes.
Mr Brown is also on the board for the World Jewish Relief organisation which aid under-developed communities in the former Soviet Union. One of his responsibilities is to organise holidays for the children affected by the Chernobyl disaster of 1984 who come to visit Blackpool every year.
