Marton Moss is set for more housing

ANOTHER piece of Blackpool's Marton Moss has been earmarked for housing.

Kensington Developments, which has already applied for planning permission to build 540 homes on land off Moss House Road, is also hoping to build on a parcel of former farmland between Midgeland Road and Stockydale Road.

It has submitted plans to the council for 84 eco-friendly dwellings on the seven acre site known as Runnell Farm.

Impact

A planning brief says: “The new contemporary homes will be built with their impact on the environment very much in mind.

“On-site renewable energy options are proposed, together with water conservation measures and a sustainable drainage system.”

If the scheme gets the go-ahead, around half the homes will be mews-style, about a third will be detached and the rest will be apartments.

Landscaping will include a green and a pond, and access to the site, most recently used for grazing horses, will be from Midgeland Road.

The design brief adds: “A variety of new native shrub and tree planting within the development will reinforce its relationship with the surrounding area, allowing the proposal to read as a well established part of the landscape.”

Members of the Save Our Moss campaign, set up to fight the Moss House Road proposals, said they were concerned about the latest application and would be examining it closely to see what the implications were for the area.

Save Our Moss chairman Angelia Hinds said: “I think the issues are going to be exactly the same as for Moss House Road.

“ I’m also concerned the cumulative impact of all these applications is taken into account.

“We are looking at loss of open space and good quality agricultural land being swallowed up. Some residents are already affected by flooding.

“They rely on the land at Runnell Farm to absorb the water – where will it go if the land is built on?”
