Man hit out at hospital workers
Police attended
A DRUNKEN man lashed out at medical staff and patients in Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
Richard Johnson, a jobless 32-year-old, of Rathlyn Avenue, Layton, admitted being drunk and disorderly.
Paul Foster, prosecuting, said police were called to Victoria Hospital at 1.10am on January 31 and told a drunken man was being verbally abusive and lashing out at patients and staff.
An officer found Johnson slumped in a wheelchair near the entrance to a ward. It was pointed out that staff wanted him to leave, but Johnson subjected the officer to a tirade of abusive comments.
Johnson told the judge: “I can’t remember it. I’m an alcoholic and I’m waiting to go into rehabilitation.”
He was fined £65 with £85 costs and ordered to pay the £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Mike Fanning sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
The judge told him: “This was an unpleasant incident in a hospital and upsetting for people who were there for a legitimate purpose.”
