A MAN was caught by police committing his fourth offence of drink-driving within 10 years.

Neil Rodgers, unemployed, 41, of Derby Road, North Shore, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol without insurance and not in accordance with his licence.

Paul Foster, prosecuting, said a police patrol stopped Rodgers at 7pm on January 27 as he drove a Toyota on Cookson Street. A breath test showed 44 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. Rodgers had three previous drink-driving convictions.

Brett Chappell, defending, said Rodgers had co-operated throughout and was very remorseful. It was a low alcohol reading and Rodgers had been surprised he was over the limit.

District Judge Mike Fanning sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court told Rodgers that he had considered sending him to prison because of his bad driving record, but taken into consideration he had co-operated with police.

He was sentenced to an 18 weeks electronically tagged curfew between 8pm and 7am, banned from driving for 54 months, fined £100 with £85 costs and ordered to pay a £15 victims’ surcharge.
