Man stole gin in bid to be arrested

A MAN told police he stole two bottles of gin because he wanted to be arrested as he had nowhere to live.

Paul Fitton, 27, of Welbeck Crescent, Marton, admitted theft when he appeared before Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Fitton was caught by security guards after stealing the spirits from Iceland.

Hugh Pond, defending, said his client had an alcohol problem and had nowhere to live at the time.

Fitton was given a 12-months conditional discharge.
