Major drugs haul uncovered at farm

A MAJOR drug growing operation has been uncovered at a Fylde coast farm.

The 30 plant haul was discovered by search officers in the roof space of a barn at the rural site in Thornton.

Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, police swooped last Thursday and uncovered a sophisticated growing system including lighting, heating and watering units in the eaves of the brick structure on Fleetwood Road South.

A John Deere baler, believed to have been stolen from the Garstang area in May last year, was also recovered at the address.

Three men were arrested, two have been released on police bail while one will face no further charges.

Sgt James Pinder, of Fleetwood Police, said: "Residents should be reassured we are tackling the problems they have been telling us are a real issue for them.

"We would urge them to come forward with any concerns that they may have about their local area so that we can act upon them."

A 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis, abstracting electricity and theft. Both have been released on bail pending further inquiries. An 18-year-old man was arrested and released without charge.

Cannabis factories are quite common in urban locations it is more rare to see them installed in a rural property.

In 2007, police were shocked to find 1m worth of cannabis behind the doors of the then disused Wardleys restaurant in Hambleton.
