Lisa's experience: My pendulum spun to say 'yes'

MY fascination with ghosts has always been a more peek-from-behind-a-cushion kind.

Putting myself in an actual position where I may encounter one, well that's a different matter entirely.

Entering the dark theatre at the time I would usually have been thinking about going to bed was frightening enough, but my heart began to pound as our experience began.

Ghostly

Every shadow and tiny creak seemed amplified as Stephen Mercer led us to the silent, empty stage and turned down the lights.

My heart began to race and I clung on to Julia for dear life as we surveyed row upon row of empty seats.

I hardly dared even look up at the dress circle as I was positive I would see the dark shapes of a ghostly audience.

By far the weirdest experience I had during the night was up in the upper dress circle which is where the most paranormal activity has been reported.

I was actually feeling quite frightened by now and, when seated at the back, I did have a peculiar sensation.

I felt as though somebody was stood very close behind my seat.

All the hairs raised on my neck, I felt like I was frozen to the spot and bizarrely my lips started to feel numb.

Later in a seat at the front of the circle I felt as though there was weight on my shoulders as if somebody was pressing down.

When the tour started Julia and I were given pendulums which can be used to communicate with spirits.

To use the pendulum, you hold it in your hand and ask yes or no questions to which "spirits" can answer by spinning it either clockwise or anti-clockwise.

I was terrified when my pendulum actually began to spin and when I asked if Charlie, one of the Grand's best known ghosts was with us, my pendant span clockwise for 'yes'.

I will never know if I really felt what I think I did or whether I was just feeling the effects of the charged atmosphere.
