ILLUMINATIONS designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has revealed his colourful new tableaux.

The TV personality was in Blackpool to see his latest Theatre D’amour creation brought to life ahead of Switch-on Weekend from September 2 to 4.

This year’s theme is another extravagant project – based on a Victorian children’s toy theatre built to life-size proportions.

The huge cube-shaped stage has incorporated a vibrant Victorian design, mixed with images of popular cult figures, such as The Stig from BBC’s Top Gear, Kermit the frog and Kylie Minogue.

Popular Royal couple The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also featured on the structure alongside the Queen and Robbie Williams.

Mr Llewelyn-Bowen said: “Despite early construction setbacks I’m delighted with the progress.

“It’s definitely bang on bedazzling track for its own switch on ceremony next Thursday.

“At 15m-high it’s causing quite a few holiday-making jaws to drop as well as confusing seagulls unused to seeing Kylie, Robbie, Elizabeth the First and Kermit the frog all hanging out together!”

Graham Cain, cabinet member for tourism and culture, added: “Laurence is a great ambassador for the town and works very closely with our Illuminations team to create new and exciting displays. “He was in Blackpool this week to see how his new tableau, Theatre D’amour, was taking shape and will return next week to make the finishing touches. It’s the most challenging piece the team has ever worked on but I’m sure it will be worth the effort.”
