Lancs police tweet to treat crime
POLICE in Lancashire have turned to 'tweeting' in their battle to fight crime.
The force has set up its own pages on the social networking site, Twitter, to deliver instant crime messages.
It is hoped using the site will enable officers to reach a wider audience, especially younger people.
Officers from Lancashire Police have already used other social networking sites, such as Facebook and YouTube to put out appeals for information about crime.
Twitter will be used to inform people across the Fylde coast, and the whole of Lancashire, about events, problems and crimes.
Acting Deputy Chief Constable Wendy Walker said: "More and more people are using social networking sites as an easy, instant form of communication they can trust and we want to embrace that.
"Social networking sites like Twitter present us with a fun way of reaching out to more people and interact with our communities.
"Through this online site we hope younger generations in particular will become more involved with policing in their areas and gain a better understanding of what we do and how they can help us make their neighbourhoods safer."
The force is actively seeking 'followers' to help them fight crime as well as receive updates on incidents and other issues.
The Lancashire Police registered twitter account is named LancsPolice.
