Kirkham shines on its annual club day
THE streets of Kirkham and Wesham were alive with bright colours and music for this year's annual club day.
Even the weather played its part as glorious sunshine shone down on the vast array of floats and people in colourful costumes.
The procession, which included rose queens and their attendants, brass bands, church banners and children from most of the area's schools, made its way through the streets from Wesham to St Michael's Church in Kirkham while hundreds of local residents lined the streets to watch.
Kirkham councillor Elaine Silverwood, who runs Silverdell Bookshop and Ice Cream Parlour, said: "It was one of those fabulous traditional family events.
"There were grandparents, parents, children - the whole family and a great atmosphere, the weather was gorgeous - the whole thing was absolutely perfect.
"I just get so excited when I look out the shop window and see so many people here to watch the procession and there was a really good turnout this year."
A funfair was also running in the town over the weekend to mark the occasion.
Kirkham resident Jane Smith had come to watch the procession with her six-year-old daughter and friends.
She said: "We come to club day every year. There seemed to be a lot more in the procession this year, it was great. We really enjoyed it and the weather was beautiful too."
