Jet2 announce new Blackpool route
AIRLINE bosses have announced a new route from Blackpool Airport – just a day after they announced they were slashing two services.
Budget carrier Jet2.com announced yesterday that flights to Ibiza and Mahon, Menorca would be cancelled from summer next year.
But now, the airline has announced new flights between Blackpool and Jersey, starting in May 2010.
Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com, said: "We are committed to offering customers as much choice as possible when it comes to their holiday destination.
"This will be the first time that people have been able to fly to Jersey from Blackpool International and we are confident this new route will be a great success.
"Blackpool is a fantastic airport which is easily accessible to people across the North West. We now have seven great destinations on sale for 2010 and look forward to welcoming many more passengers to what is an extremely important and successful base for us."
The new weekly service to the popular Channel Island will start on May 28 2010, with flights now on sale from just 29.99 one way including taxes.
Susan Kendrick, customer relations and communications manager at Blackpool International said: "The introduction of a new scheduled service to Jersey clearly demonstrates Jet2.com's commitment to Blackpool International and the airport's continued efforts to grow and develop.
"We want to provide the most cost effective services for our passengers and to promote the tourist destinations of Blackpool, the Lake District and Lancashire to our inbound passengers.
"In the present climate Blackpool International is holding its own and will continue to develop ways to sustain and grow the business in what is a very difficult environment for airlines."
Jet2.com did not give a reason for pulling the routes to Ibiza and Mahon.
Today's announcement means holidaymakers from Blackpool can book flights with Jet2.com to Jersey, Malaga, Faro, Majorca, Alicante, Murcia and Belfast.
