Jedward have got the X-ray Factor

A YOUNG fan of pop phenomena John and Edward has taken his support for the controversial X Factor twins to the extreme.

Five-year-old Corey Beaumont became so overwhelmed with excitement when John and Edward - dubbed "Jedward" - made it through to the next round of the hit ITV show that he jumped for joy, fell awkwardly and broke his arm.

The pupil from Devonshire Primary School was rushed to hospital on Sunday evening and will now spend the next four weeks with his arm - from his shoulder to his fingers - in plaster.

Corey told The Gazette: "I jumped up because John and Edward got through and hurt my arm on the floor. It's a bit better now.

"I hope they get through this week. The singing is good and I like their dances."

His grandmother, Jackie Ryan, 45, of Charles Street, Blackpool, where Corey also lives with his mum Jayne Costigan, said: "He loves them. He always has done from the first time he saw them. He likes them because they are so funny."

Corey was so worried the twins would be given the boot last week when they found themselves singing for survival along with Welsh contestant Lucie Jones, that he picked up his grandmother's phone to vote for them.

Miss Ryan, who wanted Lucie to be saved, said: "He loves using the phone and he wanted to vote for John and Edward, he idolises them. They must be right for the kids."

The controversy surrounding the Irish twins exploded this week as judge Simon Cowell chose not to send them home and deferred the decision to the earlier public vote instead.

It meant the twins were saved while Lucie was sent home.

Miss Ryan added: "After the sing-off Simon put it to the public vote.

C"orey was panicking. As soon as he saw they'd been put through he jumped up for joy. But he sat down funny and ended up in hospital. It's so easily done.

"He had knocked his elbow completely out of place and he had to have it manipulated back in. He also broke one of his bones in his left arm. He was in surgery for a couple of hours and he's now in plaster from his shoulder to his fingers.

"When he woke up after theatre he was crying because he wanted an orange pot on instead of the theatre plaster but he's doing really well with it, he holds his arm up."
