BAE bosses are expected to announce the loss of 820 jobs at its Warton plant on Tuesday.
The Gazette understands the axe will fall on that number of jobs - not confirmed by BAE but reported by several sources - following the scaling back of production of the Typhoon.
Workers and unions have demanded answers from bosses as thousands of jobs hang in the balance across the company’s UK sites.
The defence giant has already warned staff will be cut after carrying out a review of operations.
It’s understood a further 560 jobs will be axed at Samlesbury.
Although bosses are remaining tight-lipped – other than to say the company is “reviewing operations” – speculation is high that production of the Eurofighter Typhoon is being scaled back as nations cut their defence budgets.
Staff at Warton - where final assembly of the Typhoon takes place –today described morale as at rock bottom, while unions and MPs called for urgent talks.
