Hotelier hits back over 'filth' claims
A HOTEL boss has hit back at claims bedrooms in his property were "filthy".
Francis Sheridan, manager of The Savoy on Queens Promenade, says the hotel has undergone a multi-million pound make-over since it was taken over by the Britannia chain in 2006.
The 145-bedroom property came under fire from holidaymakers James McEwan and his wife Margaret last week.
The couple, who live in Spain, claimed their room was "covered with mould and really dirty".
Eventually they were given a refund.
But Mr Sheridan, who employs 60 staff, said he inspected their room but it was clean.
He said: "When Britannia bought this hotel it was refurbished from top to bottom and millions of pounds have been spent on the bedrooms and the public areas.
"We are a very busy hotel and with 150 wedding booked in over the next five years, as well as being a popular venue for Lodge dinners and meetings.
"Many people return year after year. None of this squares up with a hotel being described as dirty."
