Gun drama on resort street

A MAN was allegedly shot in the face and body during an incident in central Blackpool.

Armed police wearing riot gear surrounded flats on Adelaide Street after a man was heard shouting from a window that a gunman was in the building.

It is believed the man told officers he had been shot in the face and body by a pellet gun.

Shocked local residents and passers-by looked on in horror as the dramatic scenes unfolded around 1.20pm on Saturday.

Police only released the details of the incident today.

Negotiators were called in and the men came out of the building around 40 minutes later.

A police spokesman said: "Reports were received of a male shouting from a ground floor window on Adelaide Street that someone had a gun in the address.

"Patrols attended and contact was made with a man in a bathroom window, who stated he had been shot in the face and body.

"He had injuries to his face and torso consistent with a pellet gun."
