Graffiti blight on Wyre

POLICE and community leaders are appealing for help in catching the vandals who are causing a graffiti "blight" on Cleveleys.

The 'Sane' graffiti tags have been sprayed on buildings, doors and walls across the town and now the vandals are moving to nearby Thornton.

Police Community Support Officer Kelly Sadler, of Cleveleys' neighbourhood police team, said: "The tag has appeared on doors, walls, and on buildings and really affects the aesthetic look of these places.

"It makes residents angry that someone could treat the area in which they live with such little respect.

"The tags are cleaned off where possible but as it is often sprayed on private buildings this can be difficult, as we need to seek permission for it to be removed."

Some graffiti can be seen on electric board covers in the rear alley of Coronation Road and at the back of shops on Victoria Road West.

Martin Hunns, chairman of Cleveleys Traders' Association, said: "We don't want the tourists to see the graffiti, we want them to come to the town and enjoy their time here.

"We are trying to control it in Cleveleys with CCTV cameras, which are situated on the main street and the promenade to deter people.

"We have caught offenders and they have been made to clean up their graffiti.

"The traders keep their eye on it, we do the best we can."

Police are now appealing for anyone who knows who is responsible for the graffiti, or has any information about it, to contact them as soon as possible.

PCSO Sadler added: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have information about who is doing this to get in touch with us.

"This would include parents who may have heard something from their children.

"Graffiti is a real blight on Cleveleys' urban landscape and won't be tolerated."

Anyone with any information should contact the Cleveleys' neighbourhood police team on (01524) 63333.
