Gok's beauties brave the cold

OH, what to wear on a windy day on Blackpool's North Pier?

It is a question many visitors to the resort face, only most do not follow the lead of these bold beauties who decided to brave the gale-force conditions and pull on their bikinis!

It was all because fashion guru Gok Wan was gracing the resort in his bid to discover the country's most beautiful "natural" babe.

The king of style, famed for presenting Channel 4 series How to Look Good Naked, surprised holiday-makers on North Pier as he filmed his new show, Miss Naked Beauty, alongside fellow presenter Myleene Klass and soul diva Mica Paris.

Curvaceous, slender, natural or glam, tiny to towering, unconventional beauty or model material ... more than 200 women descended on the famous boardwalk to audition for the Channel 4 programme which will be aired in October.

Fashion stylist to the stars Gok is searching the country for a

21st Century 'Eve' and ambassador for natural beauty – which means hair extensions are a no-no, metal detectors probe for piercings and fake breasts are ruled out.

He is on the lookout for the woman who embodies the "confidence, spirit, sex appeal, brains and beauty – inside and out – of a modern-day Eve".

And Blackpool certainly provided plenty of that!

Thelma Dawson, a day tripper from Clitheroe, said: "Gok got absolutely mobbed. He signed an autograph for me and kissed me on the cheek, I was thrilled to bits!

"Women love him because he's a true fashion icon and really makes a difference to not just your appearance but how you feel. He makes the beauty come from inside.

"It was a rare treat to see him and he posed for pictures and chatted to fans along the pier.

"The girls looked lovely in their bikinis and it was just like the good old days when beauty pageants were held on the pier.

"It is a perfect setting and we were all very star struck!"

A panel of judges will now shortlist the women with real potential and explore their ideas of beauty and confidence.

They will face a series of challenges before being whittled down to a handful of finalists.

The public will then cast their vote to decide who will be crowned Channel 4's beauty ambassador.
