IAN Holloway’s Seasiders are at Wembley today determined to pull off a dramatic return to the Premier League.
The club is line to earn another £40m should they get the better of West Ham.
It will also have massive knock-on effects that will benefit the whole town, with the increased tourism and raised profile that come hand in hand with promotion to the top flight, alongside the likes of Manchester United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Pool’s achievement is quite something given that the club suffered the hammer-blow of relegation just 12 months ago.
But Holloway and his players have bounced back in spectacular style and now only West Ham – managed by former Blackpool boss Sam Allardyce – stand between them and a return to the Premier League.
“This is our chance to do something incredibly special,” said Holloway.
“Some people probably thought we’d have our one season in the sun and that would be it – that we’d slink away and disappear.
“There was never any chance of that. This club is too good for that and I am too proud as a person to ever let that happen.
“We face a huge task at Wembley. West Ham are undoubtedly one of the biggest and best clubs in the Championship and they finished 11 points ahead of us in the league, and beat us twice. But forget that. This is a one-off game.”
