Gazette petition delivered in post office fight
POST Office bosses were today presented with a true show of people power from Gazette readers.
A delegation from Blackpool travelled to Royal Mail's Watford HQ to hand over more than 9,000 signatures in support of 12 under threat Fylde branches.
Reporter Joe Robinson and Julian Wigley, sub-postmaster at Layton's under-threat Torsway Avenue post office, presented a battle box full of petitions and an in-depth dossier filled with newspaper stories, case studies and a letter from Gazette editor David Helliwell.
The dossier and the petitions will now be added to the thousands of letters which have already been sent to the consultation, which is based at Watford Mail Centre and ends today.
A decision on the future of the 12 under threat Fylde branches is expected within three weeks.
The six-week Stand Up For Post Offices campaign has run alongside the official Post Office Ltd consultation process where local residents have been able to register their views on the closures.
