A CONTROVERSIAL gas drilling company has completed a survey which has seen miles of cabling laid across Fylde.
Cuadrilla Resources started its geophysical survey back in March – and since then dozens of residents have complained about alarming bangs and shaking homes.
Residents are continuing to raise concerns about the work, which has seen explosives detonated to build up a picture of the ground underneath the Fylde, but Cuadrilla has now announced the survey is over.
And the firm, which is responsible for controversial shale gas fracking in the area, has thanked the local community for its patience.
A Cuadrilla spokesman said: “We’re very grateful to everyone in the survey area for bearing with us while we completed the survey work.
“Though the survey is now complete, we are happy to talk to residents with any questions or concerns about the survey work on our helpline 0800 170 1115. The valuable information we have gained will allow our future operations to be much better targeted, needing fewer sites to extract more gas.”
During the survey, complaints were received from residents across the borough, including Singleton, Elswick, Freckleton, Wesham and Kirkham.
Robert Silverwood, who lives on Lower Lane in Freckleton, had workers close to his house last week and said his home was shaking as a result.
He said: “There must have been about 20 blasts and it did sound very near.
“There was a vibration and it went up my mum’s feet and she felt it in her body – I don’t think we should be feeling this.
“Our barn doesn’t have proper foundations and we’re worried about how we would prove it if we got a crack as a result.”
And Coun Liz Oades and Coun Elaine Silverwood, who represent Kirkham, are now hoping to organise a meeting in the town between Cuadrilla, Fylde MP Mark Menzies and local residents.
Coun Oades said: “I’m trying to insist we call a public meeting in Kirkham because we’ve been inundated with phone calls from people who are very upset about the survey.
“I think now is the time to have a meeting because people have experienced the survey and they can ask questions and if they have damage we can see what can be done.”
A date for the meeting is yet to be fixed.
