Fylde railways on track for £200m boost
FYLDE coast commuters were today given a £200m boost as it was announced the main rail route into Blackpool is to be electrified.
Transport Secretary Lord Andrew Adonis revealed three major routes in the North West are to be switched from diesel power - including Preston to Blackpool North.
As well giving the Fylde an "electric link" to Liverpool and Manchester today's news fuels hope a direct rail service to London could return.
Blackpool lost its link to the capital six years ago and its return is seen as vital by both commuters and business locally.
The electrification will mean a faster, quieter, greener and a more reliable service.
