Fylde development plans to create jobs

A HUGE development on the edge of Blackpool could attract up to 6,000 jobs to the Fylde coast, it is claimed.

Work is progressing on the M55 hub plans which also earmarks land for up to 7,000 new homes over the next 25 to 30 years.

A masterplan was completed earlier this year by planning consultants David Lock Associates which allocates around 50 hectares of land close to the existing Whitehills Park, for employment purposes.

Blackpool and Fylde councils are now working closely on taking the scheme forward.

Fylde Council leader John Coombes said the development could have huge economic benefits.

He said: "The whole concept of the M55 hub is about putting quality housing close to schools, shops and places of employment. If the population is expanding to that extent then obviously we need the jobs to go with it as well."

The scheme straddles the boundary between Blackpool and Fylde, with around three quarters of the land in Fylde.
