Fylde cousins walked on tops of caravans

TWO cousins who had been drinking at a wake following their grandfather's funeral caused almost £3,000 of damage to caravans by walking over the tops of them.

Liam Lund, a 26-year-old biscuit factory worker, of Cedar Crescent, Kirkham, and Matthew Bain, a jobless 23-year-old, of Pendle Court, Wesham, both pleaded guilty to damaging three caravans belonging to Anthony Hamer.

They were bailed to March 29 by Blackpool magistrates for sentence and a hearing to assess the full cost of the damage.

Brett Gerrity, prosecuting, said a man driving into Preston Business Park, Kirkham, saw the defendants on top of a caravan in a caravan storage area on July 15 about 8pm.

Lager

The defendants jumped up from the caravan roof and over the security fence.

One was seen to fall flat on his face and the other to be carrying a bottle of lager.

The caravans' owner told police one caravan had cost 2,300 to repair, another 350 and the third 250.

Steven Townley, defending, said that on the day of the offence his clients had been to their grandfather's funeral.

They were having a drink afterwards when they saw a relative they wanted to avoid.

Lund's house adjoined the caravan storage area, so they climbed on the wall and walked across the tops of some caravans.

Mr Townley added: "They were wearing trainers, not hob-nail boots. They walked across, they did not run or jump up and down. They dispute the cost of the damage they are supposed to have caused."
