Fylde children get a Sure Start
A NEW children's centre to help out youngsters and their parents has opened on the Fylde.
The Cleveleys Children Sure Start centre has been described as a haven for people who need help.
It also gives them the chance to interact with the community.
And it was down to new Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard to do the honours and cut the ribbon at the centre's official opening.
The Conservative MP was joined by ward councillor Andrea Kay, who both met with staff and children as part of the open day.
Coun Kay, who was once a young, single mother herself, said the centre was needed in the town.
She said: "All young mums should have access to help and advice.
"I remember when I was 18 and single with a young child times were hard and it was quite a frightening experience. It is for anyone in that situation.
"That's why it is so important to have these centres in locations where people can get access to them.
Despite having a number of elderly people in the town, there is also a high proportion of single mothers who need help and advice.
