Blackpool Carers’ Centre has received a grant of almost £43,000 to boost support and services for unpaid young adult carers.

The donation comes from the Co-operative Group, which is raising money for the Carers’ Trust.

Michelle Smith, chief officer at the centre, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the support from Carers’ Trust and for the support of the Co-operative.

“In Blackpool we work with more than 250 young carers and their families – young people who are often the glue holding families together. Thanks to this grant programme we can continue to enhance and develop the service that these young people need and deserve.”

Paul Connolly, of Co-operative Food, Blackpool, said: “I am extremely proud the money raised by the Co-operative and its customers is now making a real and tangible difference here in Blackpool.”
