Len Curtis surveys the damage caused by a fire at Donna's Dream House

POLICE today renewed an appeal for help in catching arsonists who torched a much-loved Blackpool charity.

Donna’s Dream House, the Chapel Street charity which helps give sick children holidays by the sea, was attacked before Christmas.

Burglars broke in between 1.30pm on Decmber 20 and 7.30am the following day and stole a number of different electrical items.

They then forced open another cabin and set fire to it causing extensive damage.

Items stolen included a Panasonic Film Camera, an Olympus Digital Camera with a set of six professional lenses, an overhead projector, a Cannon Digital projector, 3 HP Compaq Presario laptops, an Acer Aspire laptop with Blu-ray player, a Casio Electric calculator with paper roll, a HP notebook, a Blackberry Bold phone and charger, an LG 50” flat screen TV and 3 12” CCTV Monitors.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have been offered any of these items.

Det Sgt Paddy Dowling, of Blackpool CID, said: “This is a heinous offence that has left the community shocked.

“Donna’s Dream House is a well known local charity in the area that does endless amounts of good work for terminally ill children and their loved ones.

“Local residents have been left sickened by what has happened.

“Our investigation into what happened continues and we have a team of officers working on the case.

“I am really keen to speak to anyone who may have been offered some of the electrical items cheap prior to Christmas or even purchased some of them. It may well be that people bought some of the items innocently not knowing that they were in fact stolen. I would urge those people to get in touch and contact the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Blackpool police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
